Somethings just don't fit anywhere. But they feel bad if we call it miscellaneous, so they're general posts.

What a month it has been

My last post on this blog was March 26th, one month ago.  For that hiatus I have few excuses.  There are few things I enjoy more than the opportunity to write in my haphazard fashion, ruthlessly examining the latest in tech and internet culture.  The month of April was a powerhouse month, with plenty of …

2013: The Year of Radical Ideas

The old superstition is that 13 is an unlucky number.  I’ve never understood it but that’s what people tell me on airplanes.  That said, the year 2013 must be really terrifying for people who fear the number.  So I had a thought: let’s embrace a sort of mystical quality of 2013.  Josh Topolsky’s New Years …

CES 2013: Intel Unveils 4th Generation Core Processors, New Atoms and Ivy Bridges

Not to be outshone by its graphics competitor, Intel has also taken the stage here at CES to release new info in its next generation processors. While “Chipzilla” has a well laid roadmap and provides developers with tons of info at their own Developer Forum, CES is where Intel makes there products matter to us: …

Great Moments in Tech: 2012

great_tech_2012.002

Hey guys.  Well we made it one more year, despite attempts by ancient civilizations.  2012 was a good year for the tech industry.  A milder economic climate has allowed the industry to flourish in better spirits than the weak days of 2009 and 2010.  Despite that, this has been a year more of evolution than …

Welcome to 2013

Yes, technically the new year was over a week ago, but as with all things I’d rather be late to the party than not show up at all.  2012 was a slower year for this blog, and I have no one to blame but myself (who else could I blame?  This is a one-man operation). …

A Farewell to Elections

at least it's over

I thought that by focusing my blog on technology I could side step politics.  My intention was to immerse myself in the study of consumer technologies, only coming up for air when policy would dictate a change in our access or implementation of a new technology.  However, as I came to understand, and was quickly …

Status update

Hey folks.  Couple updates on the site to give you all an idea of the posting schedule this summer.  As with most summers in the past, I’m working at a camp in New England that does not have the greatest internet availability.  Not to mention the fact that I’ve been in intensive training with little free time.  So though the last week has been full of significant news for the sector, I’ve barely had a moment to sit down and write something up.  Things will only get more intense with the arrival of the campers, so my posting will be irregular.  Most weeks, expect a weekend wrap up of the week’s news and maybe an editorial if I can find the time.

The Last Semester

Hey everyone.  Let’s call this the mother of all housekeeping posts as I address all of you who wonder where the hell I went these past few months.  All 20 or so of you.  It’s no secret that my content that dropped off the face of the earth, which is sad given the website reboot …

The Case of the Mysterious Mountain Lion Requirements

Apple’s muted announcement of OS X Mountain Lion also came with interesting new requirements for the new software.  With every previous iteration of OS X, Apple has changed the base requirements for pretty logical reasons.  Leopard needed a computer with at least a 867Mhz G4 because of its CPU-taxing new features.  Snow Leopard eschewed PowerPC …

We Have Won: SOPA/PIPA Votes Delayed

As the fight continues for our freedom of speech on the internet, the mounting pressure against the US government’s support of SOPA is apparent.  Wednesday’s Internet blackout sent a strong message and threw SOPA into a critical light.  Just last night, all four Republican candidates explicitly derided the bill at CNN’s debate, calling it “written …
